TIME4CS Team
Tyndall is a leading European research centre in integrated ICT (Information and Communications Technology) materials, devices and systems. It is one of Ireland’s five National Labs, specialising in both electronics and photonics. Tyndall works with industry and academia to transform research into products in its core market areas of electronics, communications, energy, health, agri-tech & the environment. With a network of over 200 industry partners and customers worldwide, they are focused on delivering human and economic impact from excellence in research. A research flagship of University College Cork, Tyndall is home to a research community of 600 people of 52 nationalities. Through a range of collaborative and contract research models we deliver technology solutions to industry challenges. We conduct collaborative and contract research programs in two primary technologies: photonics and micro & nano systems. Our industry-focused research is applied primarily to challenges in the areas of health, communications, energy and the environment.
With a target on applied research, dissemination of results is an essential element of many national and internationally funded projects. Tyndall places strong emphasis on liaising with the local community through a dedicated Public Engagement and Outreach team, integrating science and public education, focusing not only on primary and secondary schools, but also with all citizens in the community.
Tyndall participates in the TIME4CS project as an Implementer. Implementers (Is) are TIME4CS beneficiaries who are still in early stages of the implementation of Institutional Changes to support Citizen Science and are willing to face the challenge of introducing Citizen Science activities into their structures.
Possible Grounding Actions by Tyndall throughout the course of the project include:
Research: Join/establish a national CS network in Ireland; to expand projects using Citizen Science methodology.
Education and Awareness: Liaise with national contact points towards allocation of resources for training researchers in Citizen Science; organise workshops to promote Citizen Science.
